- Uses:
Historically used in dye manufacturing, as a rubber-compounding agent, and for clinical laboratory testing (e.g., detecting blood). Today, its use is severely restricted or banned in many countries, though small amounts may be used in research.
- Physical Properties: It is a solid with a melting point of 120 °C and a boiling point of 401 °C. It has low solubility in water and can be found in the environment as a “free” base or a salt.
- Exposure: Exposure generally occurs through inhalation or ingestion of benzidine-based dyes.
