Toluene (C6H5CH3), or methylbenzene, is a colorless, water-insoluble liquid aromatic hydrocarbon with a distinct sweet, paint-thinner odor. It is widely used as an industrial solvent, in producing gasoline, and as a raw material for chemicals like benzene and trinitrotoluene (TNT).
